The Whigs
Performed November 1,  2007

CMJ Writer Jennifer Millers says:

The Whigs Spread Their Wings With Second LP
2007-10-25
Story by: Jennifer Miller

Athens trio the Whigs are gearing up to release their first label album, Mission Control (ATO), on January 22, and are currently on an extensive tour across the US. As a follow-up to the self-released Give Em' All A Big Fat Lip, the boys found themselves amidst hard-earned high praise, a top-notch producer Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliot Smith), and the legendary Sunset Sound studio in Los Angeles. The experience may have been humbling, especially with comparisons to the Replacements and Guided By Voices, but guitarist/singer Parker Gispert exclaimed a big "hell yeah" when we caught up with him on the road. Currently showcasing the new tunes throughout December, this tour is anything but short, an antidote to a quick, DIY-attitude that the band still holds dear. "It's all about directness, not about filler," Gispert reminds us.
